Former Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin made an appearance in Georgia on Tuesday, when she headlined the P.U.R.E. Ministry Project event at the Gwinnett Arena. “My heart is in this cause, making our country and hopefully ultimately our world a more welcoming place for those with special needs,” she told WSB Radio prior to the event. Sarah Palin’s appearance at Gwinnett Arena on Tuesday night was billed as a nonpolitical benefit hosted by the Gwinnett County ministry Zachariah’s Way, which helps churches serve disabled and special needs parishioners. Zachariah’s Way even presented Palin with a tricycle for her 2-year-old son Trig, who has Down syndrome. Palin addressed the crowd with a 50-minute speech that tackled the “Obamacare” health care reform and how it would affect families with special needs children. She warned that new rules aiming to raise $13 billion by limiting contributions to flexible spending accounts amount to a “hefty tax hike” for families of special needs children struggling with health care costs. And she said families will wind up with fewer care options. “Our insurance and our care choices will be diminished by this new program,” she said. “The government’s taking over one-sixth of our economy and we expect the government’s going to do a better job than the private sector?” Palin joked that while special needs kids might not win a Nobel Peace Prize, “Nobel prizes aren’t what they used to be anyway.”Palin: Nobel Peace Prizes aren’t what they used to be – Lori Calabrese – Examiner
